CULINARY STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR STATE

5a7080e968ca9 Megan Cavins has excelled in Culinary Arts. At the competition Megan had the best showing scoring an 89 of 100 points making a caper deviled egg. Her presentation, spot-on seasoning and exemplary teamwork won her the second spot in our state tournament in March.
Rayshawn Hendricks has grown so much during the course of our program showing a particular aptitude for pastry and desserts. At the regional competition, he prepared an apple tartin and won over the judges with his stunning presentation. His score was an 80.
C.J. Mitchell (on the left) scored a 67 in competition for his caper deviled eggs. His team showed strong communication skills but needed work on seasoning. The judges applauded him for his aioli emulsion and wished him the best moving in to the state competition.
Neveen Mohammad (right) is our vegan pastry guru during practices. During competition, she produced an apple tart tatin that the judges praised for its flavor. She earned a 70 during competition putting a lot of focus on helping her struggling teammates. Here attention to teamwork earned her a spot at the state competition next month.

FCCLA is an annual competition Wilco takes part in as a component of our Culinary Arts program.  This year, five students competed at the regional level at the College of DuPage and of the five, four students have advanced on to the state competition. Wilco students took four of the nine advancing positions for our regional competition. The regional champions and state qualifiers are: Megan Cavins, Plainfield South High School, Rayshawn Hendricks, Bolingbrook High School, C.J. Mitchell and Neveen Mohammad, both also from Plainfield South High School.
