Fire Science Students Use Thermal Imaging Camera for Training

Thermal Imaging Video

Wilco Fire Science students (and Lockport Township Seniors) Jake Coot and John Krestel perform victim search and rescue evolutions inside the Romeoville Fire Department SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) Trailer.  The trailer, set up as a complicated two level maze, helps firefighters build knowledge, confidence and skills in search and rescue, techniques for navigating areas of reduced and restricted openings, emergency SCBA procedures and other firefighting scenarios.  Images were captured using an Argus Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) which permits firefighters to see clearly through thick, toxic smoke to locate and rescue victims.    The Thermal Imaging Camera, which costs approximately $6000.00 is on loan from EMC Fire Equipment Company.  Special thanks go out to the Romeoville Fire Department and EMC Fire Equipment for the collaborative effort that allowed this valuable training exercise to take place. (You can click on the video link above to watch the training video. There is no sound, only video. You must have a video player of some kind on your computer to be able to view)
