Early Childhood Course Description
Students will participate in assistant teaching by working directly with children ages 3, 4, and 5 in the Wilco Preschool Lab. First-year students will complete training for the initial level of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Credential. The curriculum offers basic knowledge and skills for those working with or intending to work with young children. Some topics covered include health, safety, nutrition, how children learn, observation and assessment, family and community relations, child development, and school-aged children. After successful teaching experiences, completing all modules, and meeting attendance requirements, students may earn their credentials.
Dual credit: Joliet Junior College CDEV201 and CDEV137 (6 credit hours).
Certifications may include: American Heart Association CPR, Gateways to Opportunity Early Childhood Education Level 1, Shaken Baby, and Mandated Reporter
Estimated cost: $40.00 student fee and $72.00($12/JJC credit hour).
Guidance Notes: Weekly assignments, projects, and quizzes. 60% of the time working with preschool children in the lab.
