Fire/EMS Alumni Spotlight: Simeon Evans
🔥 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: SIMEON EVANS 🚒
From a Bolingbrook High School student to serving his community as a firefighter, Simeon Evans’ journey is a great example of how one opportunity can help shape a career and a life of service.
Simeon joined the Bolingbrook Cadet Program during his sophomore year. While in the program, Wilco EMS Instructor Chief Lynch encouraged him to take the class at Wilco Area Career Center—a decision that would set him on a path toward his future career.
After graduating from Wilco, Simeon earned his EMT license by the age of 19 and went on to join the Black Fire Brigade, a Washington Park community service program that helps participants pursue fire service education. Because Simeon already had his EMT license, he was able to apply 50 hours toward his fire academy credits, giving him a valuable head start.
Today, Simeon is working at the Sugar Grove Fire House, serving the community and putting the skills he developed along the way into action. 🚒
When asked about the most dangerous part of being a firefighter, Simeon emphasized that the job can have significant physical and mental impacts. But despite the challenges, he says there is nothing else he would rather do.
His commitment to giving back is just as strong as his commitment to the profession. Simeon recently returned to Wilco to speak with our Fire Science students and help with ladder training, sharing his experience and encouraging the next generation of future firefighters.
We are proud to see Wilco alumni like Simeon not only building successful careers, but also giving back to the communities and programs that helped them get there.
👏 Thank you, Simeon, for serving your community and inspiring the next generation of Wilco students!
